Don’t be fooled into believing that all thermographers are the same, it simply isn’t true. Number one, you should be seen by a qualified and licensed healthcare professional.  Secondly, you need to make sure they are using updated equipment, (see below for camera specifications).  Much has changed in the technology of infrared cameras in the last 5 years making this the preferred screening tool for breast health. Last but not least, you shouldn’t have to stand in front of someone with your clothes off, we scan you in private.

Which would you prefer for your breast health screening in Florida, the traditional mammogram or a private, pain-free, radiation-free, and more sensitive alternative… Thermography

With all of today’s worries about radiation and over-diagnosis and the resulting over-treatment surrounding other forms of screening, why not try something progressive, painless and risk-free? Call The Center of Integrated Medicine for more information TODAY at 941.752.4838

Having the newest thermal imaging camera combined with a state-of-the-art specialized software program, allows Dr. Louiselle to image the breast and other parts of the body and the Board Certified Medical Doctors to read and report on her patients scans.  If inflammation or abnormality is developing in a certain area, there will be increased blood flow to that area which will show up in the images.  Benign, harmless tumors will not have increased blood flow, growing tumors will. The images can show inflammation of joints and blood vessels, as well as an unhealthy lack of blood flow.

What is “State-of-the-Art” Thermography?

Important questions to ask when seeking thermography are not only “Are your scans interpreted by Board Certified Medical Doctors?”, “How old is your camera and software?“, “What kind of camera is used and what is the resolution?”, “Are you a qualified licensed healthcare professional?” and “Do you provide any follow-up support?” The reasons these are important questions is that you want your scans read by competently trained medical professionals and the older the camera, the less detail in the images.  The less detail, the less accuracy. With less accuracy and not having the scans interpreted by specifically trained Medical Doctors, the more likely something important will be missed.

The Difference is Easy to See

The scans below demonstrate the differences in image quality and resolution of scans taken with our “State-of-the-Art” equipment and those of “the competition”. The scan on the left is the typical low-resolution scan provided by many local thermographers. The scan on the right is the high-resolution scan provided by our new camera.  Note the lack of detail in the breast scan on the left.

Thermography Resolution Comparison

Another example in the superior amount of detail seen in our equipment are these comparison scans of a patient’s face in “gray-scale”. It is easy to see the increased detail in our scan on the right when compared to the lack of detail in the scan on the left.  Note the increased detail of the hair, eye-lashes, and even the presence of eyebrows in our scan on the right.

Thermography Resolution Comparison

These images demonstrate the superior quality of the digital infrared camera and computer software used by Dr. Michele Louiselle at The Center of Integrated Medicine, quality themography that you deserve!

These images below demonstrate the thermal pattern of one of our patients with potential inflammation of the digestive tract that may be due to food sensitivities or an inflammatory bowel condition. Notice the numerous circular red spotted pattern demonstrating abnormal amounts of heat surrounding the navel in the “Before” image. The “After” image demonstrates the substantial decrease in the thermal pattern following 45 days of care at The Center of Integrated Medicine. Notice the clearing of much of the red circular spotted pattern and it being replaced by the increased green area demonstrating a return to a healthier, cooler thermal pattern.

Digital Breast Thermography

Breast Cancer is one of the most common cancers diagnosed in the U.S., 1 in 7 U.S. women will develop invasive breast cancer sometime during their lifetime. There is currently NO SCREENING TEST for women under 40 and when cancer occurs in a younger woman it is usually a much more aggressive form and less likely to respond to treatment. Detecting the possibility of breast cancer early can significantly improve a woman’s chances for longevity and good health. Thermography is Radiation-Free and Pain-Free.

Other Important Benefits of Thermography:

  • No Radiation

  • Painless

  • Non-invasive

“Stop Pushing Mammograms Now”

George Lundberg, MD. Editor-at-Large, MedPage Today.
Published: November 01, 2010.”One by one, the big-time screening tests for dread diseases, begun with good intentions, the best science known at the time, and a mass public health campaign, bite the dust.

Real science, that of statistically and clinically valid outcomes over time, obviously takes time to be realized. It also takes unbiased scientists and physicians with minimal conflicts of interest to study, deduce, report and then take the heat while putting change into practice. Sometimes the most intuitive and seemingly logical observations and conclusions are simply wrong. But once an erroneous “fact” becomes established dogma in the mind and actions of the profession and the public, it is very hard to change that belief and those practices. Of course, a change also interrupts many income streams.”

Did You Know?

  • Breast Cancer is the most common cancer diagnosed in the United States.
  • Current statistics indicate that about 1 in 7 U.S. women will develop invasive breast cancer.
  • In 2011, an estimated 230,480 new cases of invasive breast cancer were expected to be diagnosed in women in the U.S., along with 57,650 new cases of non-invasive breast cancer.

Thermograms Can Benefit All Women

They may be particularly useful for young women who want to monitor their breast health before the recommended age of 40 and can be safely performed on pregnant or nursing women. Young women are a neglected category and there are over 20,000 cases of breast cancer in young women 40 and under each year in America. When cancer occurs in a younger woman it is usually a much more aggressive form, and less likely to respond to treatment. There is currently no other routine screening test for women under 40, and thermography is a perfect test for these women as there is no radiation from the exam.

New Harvard School of Public Health research suggests that routine mammography screening, long viewed as an essential tool in detecting early breast cancers may in fact lead to a significant amount of over-diagnosis of disease that would otherwise prove harmless. Based on a study of women in Norway, the researchers estimate that between 15% and 25% of breast cancer cases are over-diagnosed.

For years the medical system has been touting mammograms as the “Gold Standard”. With an 80% false-positive rate and a 20% false-negative rate it certainly is only a “falsely worshipped and dangerous X-ray”.

The latest studies from Cornell have shown sensitivity of thermography to be 97% and were published in the American Journal of Surgery by the American Society of Breast Surgeons.

“Who Reads the Images?”

The scanned images are sent via a secured server to Physicians Insight Clinical Interpretation where a professional group of physicians who are trained in the protocols of reading Thermal images interpret the images. A very formal interpretation is made and sent to us where we will review the results and make suggestions or referrals if necessary. You are then emailed a copy of your report and can send copies of the reports to physicians for their records.

Radiation Free Breast Cancer Screening

Christiane Northrup, MD
“Every year when Breast Cancer Awareness Month (October) comes around I am a saddened and surprised that thermography hasn’t become more popular. Part of this is my mindset. I’d rather focus on breast health and ways to prevent breast cancer at the cellular level than put the emphasis on testing and retesting until you finally do find something to poke, prod, cut out or radiate. That’s why I call October Breast Health Awareness Month, not Breast Cancer Awareness Month. I understand that mammography has been the gold standard for years. Doctors are the most familiar with this test, and many believe that a mammogram is the best test for detecting breast cancer early. But it’s not. Studies show that a thermogram identifies precancerous or cancerous cells earlier, and produces unambiguous results, which cuts down on additional testing and it doesn’t hurt the body. Isn’t this what women really want?”

New! Hormone Function Profile

The delicate balance of progesterone to estrogen is an important function of the female body. The expression of estrogen can be seen on thermal images. Estrogen Dominance is a condition that has been associated with breast cancer. Our Female Profile exam will rate your estrogen expression. Look at the images below of a hot flash. Both images were taken within 1 minute of each other, the image on the right being the image taken during the hot flash.
